They only cost like ten dollars, its the new hard drive that will kill you. Besides its good to own one they come in use a lot.

I'll see what I can do about picking up a transfer cable to take the data off.
My concern is that it won't recognize the broken HD. And in that case I'd have to get a modded save file anyway if I didn't want to start from scratch.
With modded saves I'd have to redo every quest correct? That wouldn't be a problem, but I spent a lot of time level smithing/enchanting so re-doing all of that would be a pain.

Yes but at the beginning foes are extremely easy to kill with high skills and level so it may be boring for you, and even if you dont know if it will work you never know when you might need one or a friend. Also if you get into modding they can be used to put yours saves on the computer if you dont want to use a usb or something.

unplug your AV cable turn on your xbox wait 5sec plug AV cable back in (haveto do it every time you turn on your xbox)

Tried this, as well as every other method found via google search and youtube. Nothing's worked for me so I'm thinking something in the HD was knocked loose or something.
