Going From Earliest version of Android To Newest!

Version 1.5 Cupcake!

Earliest build of the Android operating System Introduced in April of 2009!
First Seen on the HTC G1 (The first Android Device) and as android became more popular more lower end phones carried this OS.

Version 1.6 Donut!

Improved Version of android 1.5 that added some tweaks and an improved camera application!

Version 2.0/2.1 Eclair!

Totally different than 1.5/1.6 with a New GUI and improved Performance!
This was an Majorly Improved version of the OS that provided allot for the Android OS.

Android Version 2.2 Froyo!

Improved GUI and added support for Adobe Flash. (First mobile OS to support Adobe Flash Player something that Apple STILL does not have)

Android Version 2.3.x Gingerbread!

Improved GUI and other things. First seen on the Galaxy S Android Device!

Android 3.x.x Honeycomb!

Android OS made for tablets! First Seen on the Motorola Xoom. The source code has not been release for this OS.

Android 4.x.x Ice Cream Sandwich!

Latest Android OS. Seen on the Galaxy Nexus. Totally new GUI and improved Performance. Both for Tablets and Phones!Best Android Version yet!

Well for one, this isn't that much of a useful topic. All it does is explain to us what the different OS's are :S
