i dont think God exists... i think it was just a way to keep people under control- like if you steal you go to hail and all sorts of stuff like that. it was just a way to control the people by putting fear in them by saying they will go to hail when they die and be dramaticaly tortured. or it could have been one of those things where someone makes up a dumba** story for something to make sence. it doesnt really bother me when i see hardcore christians and stuff like that, i just dont even bother to talk some sence into them... there just wasting there life believing in something that doesnt exist. but people can obviously believe in what they want to...

I think you are correct but that is not the main purpose of God. God(s) were created to explain the unknown and to shelter man from all evil. People are afraid of death because they don't know what comes after it. If you are told that there is a heaven waiting for you death becomes one of the last things on your mind. I believe god does not exist, but I understand the purpose that religion plays. Religion itself is for the weak. For those who can't bear to come to terms with what is in store for their lives, that if they mess up it was their doing and not God's plan. Religion is not only a scapegoat, but the biggest scam in history.
