Two good options for you would be the Denon D2000 and the Sony XB1000. The Denons will have much better sound quality, but both will provide lots of excellent bass. The XB1000 has availability issues, but can be found under $250 although some places list them in excess of $400. It's just a matter of importing them from Japan. The D2000s will not have as much focus on bass as the XB1000s do, but that's not to say they don't have absolutely fantastic bass. I'd take them over the XB1000s for every type of music.

Neither of these headphones require an amplifier, but both would benefit should you decide to add one. Tell me if you want one. There are amplifiers for any budget.

Also, consider spending less. Odds are your music is not of high-enough bitrate or master quality to get the most out of these headphones. Youtube rips and over-compressed MP3s are not good. Look for 320 kbps MP3 files, or "V0". Lossless is also an option.

alright, so i got the sony xb1000s and love them with all of my heart, thank you for the suggestion. also i got the fiio e10 usb dac amp and i love it to, but the only problem is when i go and travel with like an ipad, i wont have a usb port to plug my amp in to listen to my music with my amp, do you know of any amps that are just as good as the fiio e10 that can hold a charge and doesnt need to be plugged into a usb port.

by the way thanks so much for the suggestion on the amp and the headphones, best pair ive ever had

Glad to hear you're happy!

You should be able to just plug it straight into the iPad. They should be fine unamped. If you're satisfied without amplification for when you can't use the DAC, no need to buy a new thing. Cars also aren't really the best places to listen, since there's a lot of background noise.

Since you didn't give any preferred music genres, I'm going to stick with balanced/neutral-sounding headphones.

They're quite a bit under your budget, but I recommend the Audio Technica ATH-M50. They perform well above their price range, are fairly portable, sound absolutely incredible, are comfortable, and are built extremely well. Tell me if you want any more help or another recommendation!
