I was looking forward to possibly start to do some casual gaming on my laptop. I was wondering, will it be able to effectively run games such as Minecraft and Skyrim? Any help would be appreciated.

A quad-core @ 1.8 GHz is horrible. You won't be able to run anything new.

Also, you didn't list your GPU, so we can't tell if your laptop would even be able to handle the graphics that the game demands even if you had a better CPU.

Thanks. I was kind of aware of the fact that the processor is pretty bad.
The GPU - AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
