I agree, mainstream music right now is really disappointing. I do find that a lot of people have the sense to either dig deeper than the top 40 or look into older music, though. Some people say they wish they lived in previous decades. The reality is that if you lived in the 60s, none of the music from the following decades would be available. Also, you would not have the internet to help broaden your horizons. If you were to pick a time period to live in solely for music, the future is the way to go.

Another thing. You don't HAVE to listen to the garbage studios are churning out today on your own time. There is good music out there, and the art form is evolving many times faster than it ever has because of the internet. Experimentation is HUGE.

Finally, music that will be listened to in the future is still being produced. Like Radiohead.

You can't just label a genre "bad." It's not my thing, but there was a time when hip-hop/rap demonstrated great creativity and experimentation. Lyrics were not what they are today, soulless and thoughtless. It's a shame, but there are artists out there who have stayed true to the genre.

You're clearly listening to the wrong country, as well. I'm not a fan of the way most country is today, though.



Same with dubstep. Original dubstep is great, and, for what it is, modern dubstep is very interesting.
