Since you didn't give any preferred music genres, I'm going to stick with balanced/neutral-sounding headphones.

They're quite a bit under your budget, but I recommend the Audio Technica ATH-M50. They perform well above their price range, are fairly portable, sound absolutely incredible, are comfortable, and are built extremely well. Tell me if you want any more help or another recommendation!

ma bad music preference is rock/hard rock/country and connected to ipod/iphone

The M50s compliment rock genres very well, but I suggest you at least consider a pair of Grados. They're absolutely LEGENDARY for rock music since the signature compliments it so well. The SR125is are in your price range, and would be my first choice for exclusively rock. However, they use an open design. You might not like that.

Hey. I am looking for a pair of REALLY good gaming headsets, like MLG try hard level. I know the Astro A40's are kind of over rated. If you were to get a pair, what would you get?

Look at those M50s I recommended in the first post. I'm willing to say they're your best bet!

I would get a pair of Sennheiser HD 555s at their price point, since they're the well-documented king of gaming headphones that are not marketed as gaming headphones.

High-end, you say? Ultrasone. They have what is called S-Logic, which helps with imaging and gives you a better sense of where sound comes from. This is EXACTLY what you're looking for with gaming headphones. It's also not a gimmick, like I expected it to be. Apparently, it's been known to be extremely effective. I'd recommend any Ultrasone headphone with S-Logic up to the Pro 900 for gaming. They're also audiophile-quality for music. That's what sets them apart from junk gaming headphones like Turtle Beaches, Astros, Tritons, etc. One high-quality driver > Any amount of crappy drivers in every application.
