I want to start a server for my friends and I, and run it off of my own pc (I have a great pc )

Anyway, i've always used bukkit, but I want to get into using the legit minecraft server program so I don't have to deal with update waits with bukkit and with the legit server program I can use more mods (by legit program I mean the one found on minecraft.net). The only problem is that I can't seem to get it to work. I've port-forwarded (i think) and tried with and without hamachi (would prefer without ) but nothing seems to work. I can get onto the server but my friends keep getting errors. If anyone could help, that would kick bootay
