In order to make the chest respawn go to the MAIN entrance to Dawnstar and STAND IN FRONT OF THE argonian traveling shopkeep, Save game, then KILL SHOPKEEP, Load save game and go back to treasure chest.

DO NOT SAVE AFTER KILLING THE MERCHANT

You know all you have to do is talk to the shop keep and wait 48 hrs?
That refreashed the chest and what you sell to her some stuff will be back in the chest.

Yea but saving then killing her is so much faster then waiting 48 hours but your way works too

Yea but not killing her and waiting 48 hrs is better... you get better stuff as you lvl up and saving and restarting will get anoying as you cant sell anything back you will just restart.
When I did this I waited 48hrs... always got a large soul gem and 4+common ones and alot of armor and potions, you can sell most of it to the general goods guy in whiterun for alot of profit.
