Yes, this is true. Currently the jail break by geohot a.k.a blackra1n for the iTouch 3G is only tethered. Tethered means that it must be connected to a device(your computer). Otherwise, the battery dies and you have to redo it all over again. I believe this is because that Apple has fixed an exploit in the coding that the previous generations had.

There is also untethered, you can turn off your iTouch without it reseting. <- not out yet

NOTE THAT MAKING YOUR ITOUCH GO INTO SLEEP MODE SAVES MORE BATTERY THEN TURNING IT ON AND OFF.

when you download it
go to itunes hold either shift or ctrl down and click restore then pick the 3.1 firmware to install on it

you need to make sure you have 3.1 firmware because Blackra1n only works with 3.1 frimware

it says it works, it reboots and stuff but then there is no app on my ipod that is meant to be there.

Since the only way to Do Untethered on a 3G is by using a Mac and somthing else which i forgot (will edit when i remember)

I have my ipod plugged into my computer, i have itunes up, i then use the black rain injector thingie it says reboot so my ipod auto reboots and then nothing has happened... there is no application like there is in his video

when you have used blackra1n to jail break then run the black ra1n app on your phone. It will be able to unlock to all networks (snow) as well as add cydia and rock.

so in summery

1. update iphone to latest firmware
2. Run blackra1n let it do its stuff
3. Open blackra1n on your phone
4. install cydia, and snow (to use other carriers)
5. Go to cydia then manage - sources - edit - add then type in [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
6. now go to sections and hackulo.us and install appsync for OS 3.1
7. you can now sync cracked apps via itunes

If you add [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] to the sources then go to sections and install0us then you can add a great app that gives you links to apps that are cracked to install direct to your iphone. thats where the appsync comes in, you can then back them up for install later in itunes.
