There are a lot of options for you, JUST above your budget. They all come in at ~$180, but it's definitely worth paying a little extra! If you can't, just let me know.
The Monster Turbine Pro Gold is what I would pick if you're after bass (based on some recently acquired knowledge).
Other great options are the Vsonic GR07, the Future Sonics Atrio MG7, the UE Triple-Fi 10, and the Klipsch Image X10.
Guess I'm getting the Monster Turbines, thanks
You're welcome! Thank Ishcabible for clearing up the doubts I had regarding the Turbines!

r00t_b33r wroteIshcabible wrote To be quite honest, I kind of liked the AE1 in a chill out sense. They were bassy and hopelessly colored sounding, but that's what made them fun. Plus they're comfier than any other headphone I own, and I own roughly 50 different kinds. The AE2's are just as comfy but Bose decided to make a more neutral headphone, which was dumb, since it's less enjoyable than its predecessor and if I wanted a neutral headphone, I'd go to a "legit" headphone manufacturer since they usually know what they're doing. Hint, most "legit" manufacturers make microphones too since the tech is pretty similar. AKG, Audez'e, Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, Superlux, and Sony all made pretty good mics. Yes, Sony can be considered a "legit" manufacturer. Their low end models are sketchy but when they make an effort to make something good, they make something spectacular. Here's a bit of history. Bose's initial claim to fame was a speaker made in the 60's called the 901, of which a variant is still made today. It's probably the only good speaker they make nowadays, and "good" is questionable.
My dad is kind of into speakers, but my mom hates them so he uses them less than monthly. We just sold a pair of fairly recent 901s. Now he uses some decent Marantz ones, but they sound VERY dark to me and the detail retrieval is less than stellar. I'm not a speaker guy, though, so I'm not really one to judge.
My parents bought a bunch of Bose stuff, though. I was really young, though, so I would not have been able to intervene. Home theatre, Acousticwave (just sold as well), crappy old QC-somthings, and the 901s. Oh well.
My beef with Bose headphones is the build quality. I also think they sound pretty goofy (that's the word). I like my M50s, but have never actually heard anything oh higher quality. NOBODY I know has decent headphones. Some Beats, which I have voiced my disappointment in, and there are no audio stores where I live. No Head-Fi meet ups, no no Can-Jam, nothing. I pay for everything I hear. Pro 900 is my next step up, and it will be the best audio equipment of any kind I will have experienced. I go off other peoples' experiences and reviews for my recommendations. What else can I do?
50 headphones? My friends and parents bother me about having 6! I'm just sampling different signatures, finding what I like.
And yes, never knock on Sony. Because Qualia.
Argh, I had a nice response but my phone's browser decided to crash last night. Stupid BB. Anyways, in an ideal room, which is very rare, the 901's are surprisingly good. Heck, the fact that they don't sound like garbage is a miracle of itself. It's probably the only cool thing Bose ever has and ever will make. I mean not many companies would even think about using 8 midrange drivers in a speaker, but it actually worked with a bit of active equalizer magic.
The M50's are acceptable headphones, especially for people without amps, but the people at Head-Fi glorify them to an unholy degree. They aren't bad, sure, but I've bought headphones for $20 that trample them. The only problem is that they're terminated with a 6.3mm plug, which the M50 beats them in with its portable player-friendly drivers and plug. I'm pretty lucky to live close to Chicago where a few audio stores are. I've had the privilege to try the JVC Victor DX1000. By George, it was incredible. EVERY true basshead should try a pair at one point in their life. They're that good. I actually want a pair. the only problem is that I wouldn't be able to afford them for a good 10 years assuming I get into a good college. Where do you live? You could probably set up a meet since there are members everywhere. I found out there's a HF'er in my town that has some really rare stuff.
70% oh my headphones were review samples, so it's kind of hard to be mad about that. I don't really bring it up with friends (err...that'd be kind of creepy) and my parents are actually supportive of this because I write for a website (headfonics.com) and I can brag about it in my college apps.
Don't forget about the Sony R10! They're currently the second most expensive headphones at roughly $6000 used, behind the Sennheiser HE90 at $8000.
@Tear, for gaming headphones around $60, you could look for a used Audio Technica AD700. Look at this for some extra help: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] Sure it involves some extra research time, but you're not made of money right? It's better to spend an extra hour knowing you made a good decision.
I've actually gotten more attention wearing my Beyerdynamic DT48's than anyone wearing Beats in any given shop. They're common for movies and recording, so I get asked if I'm a producer or something.
@-Ruben- Make sure you get the Gold Turbines. The regular ones don't compare at all.

If you don't mind the massive size, look at the Sony XB700. They're VERY bassy and have a fun sound to them.

Ok well, My brother has both Bose Companion 5's, and also has Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Active Multimedia Speakers, I personally prefer Bowers and Wilkins, because to me, they sound very crisp, but im not an audiophile, so im asking you, is there any set of two speakers (maybe a subwoofer, but needs controllable bass) that will produce very clear noise. The sets I looked at were the Bose Companion 2's, and Logitech Speaker System Z523 with Subwoofer, what do you think
Thanks for that... and now headphones

You can't be too picky! The more picky, the better!
I've done some research into speakers like these, and I always end up coming back to Swan's offerings. Fantastic quality, built well, and they look great,
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The M10 is backordered, but it's worth reserving. I've heard nothing but great things, and professional audio engineers have recommended Hivi as a driver manufacturer. These will probably be able to compete with the B&W set, although they are much more expensive! It comes with a subwoofer, which I would say you want. If you listen to rap music and watch TV or movies, I would go for a 2.1 system like this instead of a 2.0. I personally am going to get a pair of the D1080 Mk. II 08s when I get around to it since I am not interested in a subwoofer. The bass will be adequate for what I am doing, but in your position a sub is necessary.
Another option would be the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system. Awesome bang for your buck, but I've still heard that the M10 is better. The benefit of the Promedia is that they are more widely available. You can often try them at Best Buy.
Headphones. I would go with the Audio Technica ATH-M50s here. Some people don't like them, but I honestly can't think of better sound quality at the price point. They're also available for quite a bit under the MSRP. I got mine used for $90, but you can get them new for $120.

You could get some M-Audio AV40s or some HK Soundsticks, but they're not on the level of the M10. With Swan, you have to deviate a little from the mainstream to get the best quality for your money.
I would have a hard time recommending anything over the M10 or Promedia for your purposes, basically. It's probably not what you want to hear, but it's how you're going to get the best for your money!

yes, i agree.... while i was waiting for the reply, i looked some up myself on amazon and other sites, but i could not find ANY set that looked as good, and had such good reviews, i did look at the klipsch, but they look very industrial, and i dont like them at all, and they are very expensive as well, compared to the swans. i will probably pick them if i do get any, thanks for all the help.... plus rep for ya!
Also, when do you think they would be coming in from backorder or whatever, because i woulld like them sometime in january, because of my birthay... Thanks
