Jump wrote Just buy beats, their best this guys an idiot.

*They're, best; (Semicolon because you're joining two subordinating clauses without a helping verb), guy's, Beats. You probably should add "the" and a receiving noun for "best" since you don't specify what they're "best" at, which would be breaking for all we know. They're the best at breaking.

Anyways, open and portable isn't really a good combination. But if you must have an open headphone, the Beyerdynamic T1 works. The Ultrasone Edition 8 is a better solution though.

And you absolutely cannot diss Tyll. He is the reason the upper end headphone market thrives, and arguably, the reason that they're making new statement products. Actually, he's the reason headphones are looked at the way they are. Without him and other people like him, there would probably be no Beats.

In terms of sound performance, they are among the worst you can buy, says Tyll Hertsens, editor in chief of InnerFidelity.com, a site for audiophiles. They are absolutely, extraordinarily bad.

You also get to see how much of a... Iovine is.

He dismissed those who criticize the sound quality of Beats. Competitors use fancy equipment to determine how headphones should sound, he said, whereas he and Mr. Young simply know how they should sound.

Yes, instead of using objective knowledge, let's use imaginary knowledge!

"The way we hear music is almost the opposite of the way these sound companies hear music"

These sound companies (Shure, Audio Technica, Beyerdynamic, Sony, Sennheiser) probably make the microphones singers use to record. If these sound companies hear music the wrong way, well then maybe he should make his own mics too since their mics are recording music the wrong way.

I would recommend the Ultrasone Edition 8 if you must have a portable, full-size headphone at that budget, but if you're going to spend that much, something that is not meant to be portable is a better choice, like the Audeze LCD-2 and a well-paired amp and DAC.

If I were you, I would get a pair of high-end custom-molded IEMs like the JH16 Pro.

They can be powered by your basic portable player without an amp, but I would strongly recommend amplification to use with line-out, or even an iPod compatible DAC. If you can handle the size, I would get the JH16 Pros and pair them with a Fostex HP-P1. Amping these IEMs is not necessary, but a proper amp will significantly improve the sound quality!

This is what you'd be carrying around.

To be perfectly honest with you, though, I would get a decent pair of on-ear headphones for wearing around, like the Beyerdynamic DT1350 or Sennheiser HD 25-1 II, and get a separate rig for your desktop. You can afford a really solid LCD-2 setup, amplification and all with your budget!

People really keep posting this? I thought there was some unwritten law on the internet that dictates one should read the OP before posting, and at least skim part of the thread to see if your question has been answered, your issue addressed, or IF THE SAME THING HAS BEEN POSTED DOZENS OF TIMES.

If you're trolling, you're a disgrace to trolls everywhere.

This is trolling. What you are doing is not trolling.

I'm not sure how well the LCD2's would fair with metal (depending on how bright you like your sound)

Oh, I totally forgot the Hifiman HE500. I loved them and they work pretty well with portable sources. But like I said, for portable use, a closed headphone is best. A Sennheiser HD25, AiAiAi TMA-1, or V-Moda M80 would serve your needs well.

Nah, I hate them because they sound like trash. My $25 Koss Portapros are better than yours. I can afford a brand new pair of Sennheiser HD800s if it were a priority for me right now. Price is not the issue.

Well, the Beats line includes IEMs, on-ears, and over-ears, so I'm not sure if you're specifically thinking of one.

In-ear: Xeport 5010 (Thanks again, Ishcabible)

On-ear: Koss Portapro or KSC75. They're open, but I find the leakage not to be so bad.

Over-ear: Panasonic RP-HTF600-S. They may not look great, but give people a listen and they'll understand.

What other headphones have you tried at that price point?

This is kind of like saying Macs are the best computers without ever using a PC, or saying the Wii is the best gaming console without trying any of the others ;) Yes, our main beef is the price but that's because their quality is so...tragic for the price that it's robbery. My $5 Koss KSC75's sounded better. (And no, this isn't a "well you can't afford it" deal. I have roughly $2000 of stuff. All of which sounds better than the Solos, which are Monster's worst sounding product to be frank.)

$100, open, and dubstep don't really work well. I suggest the Crossfade LP (they don't sound awesome but they get the job done) or AKG K181 (sound better, but not very comfy).

$30, over ear, and Beats style isn't really possible. Pick two. But for bass, you could try the Monoprice 8323 or Panasonic HTX7/HTF600.
