nothing is nothing therefore you can't have an infinite amount of an non-existent item.

The answer to the second one is because point a and point b define the ends the distance is finite but there are an infinite amount of points between. So if there is both a start and an end the distance is finite but if there is a lack of either the distance is infinite.
