Try out namebench. It hunts down the fastest DNS servers available for your computer to use. namebench runs a fair and thorough benchmark using your web browser history, tcpdump output, or standardized datasets in order to provide an individualized recommendation. namebench is completely free and does not modify your system in any way. This project began as a 20% project at Google.

namebench runs on Mac OS X, Windows, and UNIX, and is available with a graphical user interface as well as a command-line interface.

Step 1. Download NameBench

Step 2. Run NameBench

Step 3. Look at the top right of your HTML log, and in the box where it says "recommended configuration (fastest and nearest)" note the top 2 servers

Step 4. Use the first two DNS from step 3 with the following guide

You can't improve your internet that much, it depends on the state your your line itself therefore cannot be altered by software to make such a huge difference.

It's not a GIANT difference..
I have done this before..

It makes your ping faster and slows the download speed.

The higher the ping the slower you move in video games, the lower the better.

Nothing against doing this, but I wouldn't suggest it.

Ping is based of milliseconds, the lower the ping the lower the milliseconds, which helps you move better and have wonderful connection when playing CoD, let's say you come over to someone who has a higher ping it'd be easier to kill them since it takes longer for the game to function.

This is what explains why it's better to have a low ping.
