TUT/HOW-TO SET UP AND RUN SYSTEM LINK MODIFICATIONS FOR CALL OF DUTY

Hey TTG!
It seems like these questions are coming up a lot about "How do I set up Call of Duty system link mods?" I understand a lot of people purchase a JTAG/RGH for the sole purpose of modding the Call of Duty series...while you might agree or disagree w/ that decision...this post is to simply give those new users a step by step "how to" to setting up their system for modding Call of Duty. Everyone was new at some point, so I hope this helps point the new users in the right direction.
First off, it is assumed that you have a JTAG/RGH to perform these modifications/procedures. ISO/USB/Profile mods do not work for this method. If something ever changes in that aspect...I will update this thread. The type/motherboard of your JTAG/RGH has no effect on performing these modifications.
GETTING SET UP
To be able to transfer content from your PC/Mac to your JTAG/RGH, you are going to need either
1. USB memory stick (minimal space needed...less than 100MB)
2. FTP program.
The most common and easiest way of transferring items/content from your computer to your Xbox is simply using a USB memory stick. The USB will need to be formatted to FAT32 for your JTAG/RGH to recognize it. If you would like to FTP files from your computer to your box (and vice versa), you will need a FTP program (FlashFXP is a good choice), and your JTAG/RGH's IP address. In your FTP program you will need to input:
1. Your box's IP address (System Setting - Network Settings - Configure Network)
2. Port - 21
3. User - xbox
4. Password - xbox
Now that you have your everything set up that you will need to transfer the files...let's start with getting the game set up and installed on your JTAG.
INSTALLING CALL OF DUTY TO YOUR JTAG
The easiest and most common way to install Call of Duty to your JTAG is to simply rip the game disc directly to your JTAG/RGH. This would require the genuine Xbox 360 game, or a backup copy if your box's DVD drive is flashed to play burned games. You can do this one of two ways. The most common is using XeXMenu's features of "Copy DVD". The other is using "Freestyle Dash" and using it's built in DVD ripper. If you have FSD already installed on your Xbox, simply Navigate to Utilities - DVD Extract. It will then prompt you for a destination path for your game. Choose where you would like the game saved, and the name of the file, and let 'er rip. For this tutorial, we will be focusing on XeXMenu.
After turning on your JTAG/RGH, we are going to launch XeXMenu. When it has loaded you will be greeted with the "Games Discovery" tab (note, this is normally where your games will show up and allow you to launch them directly from within XeXMenu. I have my game paths set up kinda funky which is why my Games Discovery is blank...this isn't normally the case).
Once at this screen, we are going to hit the RB button to navigate to the storage tab.
Here you will be able to see the places where you will be able to save your content. You will need a storage device with at least enough space to hold the game you are copying to your box. You can use an official Microsoft Xbox HDD, or any other HDD formatted to FAT32. To select between storage devices hit the X button If you have a Jasper, or RGH'd slim w/ internal memory, you can also save items there (HddX).
To make things easier for you to navigate, we are going to set up a couple folders. To do this, select your destination HDD and once there, we are going to choose create a folder named "Games". To do this we are going to hit the Y button and select "Create". It will then ask you to enter a "Directory Name" for the folder. We are going to simply call it "Games". We now have a folder to where we can easily sort and navigate our game files in.
Now, we are going to create subfolders within "Games" for our specific titles. You can create as many folders as you like, and save as many games as you have storage for. Again, for this TUT we are going to focus on the Call of Duty Series. Now that we have our Games folder, let's make a folder within for "Call of Duty 4". We are going to navigate to our Games folder and select it.
You can see right now there is nothing within the folder. This is where we are going to copy the game to. You can see in the top right hand of XeXMenu the path where this is saved (for me it is Hdd1:\Games). Once again, we are going to hit the Y button then select "Create". We are going to name our subfolder "Call of Duty 4".
Now that we have our specific game folder, we are going to burn the disc to our JTAG/RGH. Insert the disc into your Xbox. If you have multiple storage devices, once inserting the game, XeXMenu might back out to the root of the "Storage Tab". If so, just navigate back to your destination path, find your Games folder, then Call of Duty 4 folder and open it. Once inside the COD4 folder, we are going to hit the Y button and select "CopyDVD".
It will ask you to insert the game you would like to copy. Hit confirm. Your JTAG/RGH will now copy all the necessary files from the game disc to your box.
If you have a copy of the game on your computer and don't have the disc, you can copy the game from your computer and transfer it to your Xbox. You can do this via USB or FTP like we discussed earlier, or if you have an external USB HDD, you can just transfer it that way. If the game is already extracted, you simply just need to transfer the files from your computer to your JTAG/RGH. If you only have an ISO copy of the game, you will need to extract the files for your Xbox to be able to read them. You can use a program called wx360 to accomplish this. The program can be downloaded here, or easily searched on Google.

FILES NEEDED FOR MODDING CALL OF DUTY
Now that we have our game(s) installed on our JTAG/RGH, we are going to gather the necessary files needed to System Link Call of Duty. For this tutorial, I am going to focus on three Call of Duty games...Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty WaW, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Right now, these are the only games that still have some sort of public/online methods for some types of system link modifications. If anything changes w/ Black Ops or Modern Warfare 3, I will update this thread.
To start, we are going to need a modded "default_mp.xex" for the game's most recent "Title Update (TU)". We currently are on TU4 for Call of Duty 4, TU7 for World at War, and TU7 for Modern Warfare 2. So we will need a "modded default_mp.xex for TU4" for Call of Duty 4. Seeing as default_mp's are considered warez, I am not allowed to post links for them here in this thread. I will also not send you them in a PM. Sorry, no pirating for this fella'. If you do Google them...you will find them...EVERYWHERE. So please, just take the 30 seconds to do a Google search for them. As of right now, Modern Warfare 2 is limited in terms of it's online/system link modifications. If you would like to play around OFFLINE with some fun patches, you will want to use TU6 instead of TU7. I will go more into this later in the thread.
Next, we will need the most recent Title Updates (TU).

Finally, we are going to need a "patch_mp.ff" for the game. The patch_mp is where the modified code is scripted. This is basically what allows you to perform the XP/Prestige exploits, infections, and mod menus. We have a GREAT resource here at TTG in the "JTAG Game Modding" section where many users have created and uploaded their own patches. You can find a plethora of patches there for all games. You can also find tutorials on how to edit and create your own patch. For the sake of this tutorial, I'm not going to go into how to create and modify your own patch_mp. There are many more suitable and knowledgeable people here on TTG who have already supplied us with great tools/resources to do so. Again, check out the "JTAG Game Modding" forums. For this thread, I'm just going to link some that I have personally used, and enjoy.

*Note about MW2*
As of the time of this writing, the ONLY public/online patch for TU7 is Teh1337's TU7 patch. This only allows modifications of gametypes (Arena, One Flag, GTNW), timescale modifications (slow-mo, chipmunk), and straffe mods. THERE ARE NO PUBLIC, WORKING modifications that allow XP/Prestige exploits, or other infections with the release of TU7. If you only want to modify MW2 for online infections or to get 10th Presitge...it won't work as of now. Again, if this changes, I will make sure to update this thread.
Now that we have all the necessary files...let's get them on your JTAG/RGH.
TRANSFERRING FILES FROM YOUR COMPUTER TO YOUR JTAG/RGH
We are now going to move the default_mp.xex, TU, and patch_mp.ff that we downloaded from your computer, to your Xbox. As we discussed earlier, the two methods of achieving this is either via USB or FTP . If you choose to use the FTP method, using the steps earlier provided, connect your FTP client to your JTAG/RGH. Once connected, nagivate to where you have your files located on your computer. Next, explore your Xbox and find the destination paths for the files. Once you found them, simply transfer the files over. If you do not know the destination paths, I will go over this while explaining how to transfer the files via USB.
The most common method used for transfering files from your computer to your Xbox would be using a USB. As we stated earlier, make sure it is formatted to FAT32. Plug your USB stick into your computer and transfer the default, TU, and patch to it. Now we will plug it into our JTAG/RGH. Note, XeXMenu does not recognize storage devices if you plug them in AFTER turning on your Xbox. If you still have your JTAG/RGH on, you might need to power off, THEN plug in your USB before XeXMenu recognizes it.
Now that our USB stick is in the Xbox...let's move those files. Again, launch XeXMenu and navigate to the storage tab by pressing RB. Once there, we are going to select our USB stick we just inserted (in my example it's called Usb1). Again, you can toggle through the selectable storage devices by hitting X.
We are going to find the default_mp.xex and patch_mp.ff. We are going to hover over the default_mp.xex and hit the Y button. When prompted we are going to select "Copy". Now that our file is copied (you can see this in the upper right hand corner of XeXMenu), we are going to navigate back to our Call of Duty 4 folder. Simply hit B until you are back to the storage tab. Then hit X to select the storage device where COD4 is located (my case Hdd1). We then are going to go into the folder, once there we are going to hit the Y button and select "Paste". Your JTAG/RGH will then ask you if you want to "Overwrite this crap?"...select yes.
You have now succesfully moved the modded default into your COD4 folder. Go back and do the same thing for the patch_mp.ff. Since there is no patch_mp.ff located on the retail disc, it will not ask you if you want to overwrite, so don't let that alarm you.
You now have all the game files transfered to the Call of Duty folder. We are now going to go back to our USB stick and select our Title Update (usually a longer labeled "TU" followed by a bunch of numbers). Again, hover over it and hit Y and copy it like you did before with the default_mp and patch_mp. Then, back out by hitting B and go to the root of your HDD. You should see a folder named "Cache".
This is where the Xbox stores all your Title Updates. Once opened, we are going to again hit Y and select "Paste".
CONGRATULATIONS! You can now modify Call of Duty via System Link modifications!
FINISHING UP
A couple things to keep in mind:
First and formost, anytime you take modifications onto Xbox Live...you run the risk of a ban. I have goofed around with modifications before on the Call of Duty titles, and have never experienced this, but IT CAN HAPPEN! Make sure to keep that in mind before jumping online w/ your mod menu or wallhack. I'm not your mother, so do as you please, but just be aware of possible consequences.
To be able to perform these System Link modifications, you will need both a JTAG/RGH console, as well as a functional/stock/retail Xbox. Your JTAG/RGH does not connect to Xbox Live at any point in this process. Make sure both Xboxs are connected to the same router to be able to join each other's game.
As of the time of me writing this, the methods/modifications work online and are completely functional. At anytime Infinity Ward, Treyarch, or Microsoft could patch these hindering them useless. While this isn't a sure thing, be sure to know that anything can be patched at anytime. If you are purchasing a JTAG simply to modify COD...you might want to take a second look before purchasing.
Each patch is different. Most patches require you to start the System Link game on your JTAG/RGH, then join the game on your retail without spawning on your
JTAG/RGH. Make sure to read the instructions/thread of the patch. They sometimes have different controls, button layouts, etc.
I hope this helped some of the newer JTAG/RGH owners getting their System Link mods sorted out. Any questions feel free to ask.
Good luck!
Thanks,

Yep, my own TUT.
I didn't know about the tutorial section...I'll look into it.
I just hope it helps some people navigate their box and able to perform the tasks needed to get their System Link games up and running. There seems to be a lot of questions lately about how to do it, and no real good tutorial that I've seen for just the basics. I know when I was first learning how to do it, I needed help.
