does internet explorer run if you click start > run type iexplore.exe then press enter?


From the details he has given i would geuss no because i think vital network files have been deleted....

I doubt it, "Vital network files" cannot be deleted easily as the are always in use when windows is running

Ok so you can get internet explorer to run, did you check the proxy settings as well?

you can test to see if the tcpip stack is corrupted by clicking start then run and typing cmd then pressing enter

when the black box comes up type ping 127.0.0.1 then press enter

if you get 4 replys the there is noting wrong with your network card or "vital networking files"

You would be surprised how easy it is actually because this computer is old (no offence user) and is not being used for networking that is my diagnostic.

Sorry im jot much help Jimjohnny but i would just try mounting the ISO to a cd and that should work it or if the CD on the computer is broke then go into the BIOS of your computer and check if its recognized.

Yes I did get internet explorer, but it did not have internet on internet explorer. I will run the diagnostics and post the results of it here. I did, but those were not enabled either.

I take no offense to the old computer remark, trust me I know it is old hahaha I am always telling them that but they refuse to get a cheap new one.

whilst you are there you might as well type ipconfig
press enter
write down the default gateway IP
type ping then the default gateway address (probably 192.168.0.1)
press enter
if you get replys then type ping [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and press enter
if you get replys from that then you most likely have a virus and will need to copy latest malware bytes/definitions to a usb stick and trasfer to computer and run a full scan

if the guy worked on it and he didnt know what he was doing he could have deleted some of the system files causing you computer to just fail. try reinstalling windows!

Then I am thinking it is a virus, because I got a reply from all of them. With no packets lost.
