An SSD works the same way a normal HDD does. Therefore you will be able ton install programs on a different HDD

I use an SSD as a boot drive myself and my normal programs are installed on a seperate HDD

What I'd do: split your SSD up in two partitions:

Partition 1: 55GB
Partition 2: the remaining amount

Install your OS on your first partition and use the second partition to install your applications.

90% of the applications/programs give you the option to select the drive/partition for the installation. However, many programs only give you that option if you go for an advanced install rather than the simple/easy/quick install.

And yes, you can still install stuff on your HDD while Windows is installed on your SSD.

And remember: when you get your SSD turn your disk de-fragmentation OFF. Never do that to an SSD.

No, but depending on what installer they use, it will ask you!

Oh and as Nicasus said, never defragment an SSD because there is no point xD Considering it's flash memory, virtually nothing is sequential in the first place :p Therefore defragmenting does nothing but shorten the lifespan of your SSD ^^
