To everyone blaming these results on the user, here's a text block I've posted 15 times now, and nobody has listened.
"You should not have to baby headphones. It's ridiculous. Especially ones that are meant to be portable. Build quality would not be such a gripe with headphones that are meant to be used with high-end desktop audio components, like the Audeze LCD-2, but the Beats are meant to be used with portable DAPs. Therefore, it is a requirement that they be built well."
Babying and taking care of things are different. I have a pair, and they have lasted me a while. I dont baby them, but neither do I take them off, and slam them around.
So you're between the two extremes, the self-destructive maniac and the OCD worrier. I've used these headphones, and I was struck by how I HAD to be so careful with them. Putting them on was a traumatic experience, full of creaking and rattling. The build quality and design is just astonishingly bad, and there's simply no excusing it. From what I've seen, people that use them normally, between maniacal and OCD, break them very often just by putting them on. They clearly care about their stuff, but the headphones can't stand up to every day use. It's a bad design, and I can't believe people don't realize it. Sure, people break things, but things that are made to be used by people should have a level of tolerance. Other headphones do!
and how much have you actually *seen* of people putting their headphones on? For every person that breaks their headphones you arent seeing the people the care about them and dont break them. If you cant take the extra care to not break them, and put them on gently, you should go buy some turtle beaches.

Notice my name
No... They're one of the worst-sounding-headphones I've ever listened to. People agree with me. If you're familiar with headphone audio, you may have heard of Tyll Hertsens. If you haven't, you aren't familiar with headphone audio.

Also, what reference do you have? Of course they'll sound better than your garbage iBuds (maybe, that's debatable)! They'll sound like trash compared to Xeport 5010s, which are $15 IEMs. Headphones the same price make these the worst purchase you can possibly make in headphone audio.

If you have to be so careful putting headphones on, you should not have those headphones. I would be more careful putting Beats on than I would the 5,000 dollar Stax SR-009, to be honest, simply due to the fact that the design of the SR-009 allows for them to be put on. Again, Beats are terribly designed and this is totally inexcusable.
Turtle Beaches, or any headphones marketed as "gaming," like Astros, or Trittons, are terrible for music and not even the best for gaming. "Standard" headphones can give you much better qualities that are so useful in gaming, like detail and soundstage. The AKG K701 is a great example, and is likely THE best gaming headphone out there within reason. It's musical qualities make it great for gaming, and it was not designed with gaming in mind.

I've seen people that use them with utmost care and still have them break with normal usage. And you're acting like they're some sort of treasure that's worth really taking care of. I'm sorry, but they really aren't. Case in point, I bought a $20 pair of Beyerdynamic DT220's directly from Beyerdynamic from when they had a fire sale on them. I've literally been able to absent-mindedly stuff them into a backpack, have them fall from counters, step (!) on them on accident, and much more and not even a single scratch. Why? Because they're made of metal (the entire headband is metal) and incredibly thick plastic for the cups. And they sound pretty damn good. So...$20 for a completely metal headband, insane durability, and a very accurate (these are studio headphones after all) sound compared to $150-$180 for Solos which are made of brittle plastic and have a muffled, at best, sound. Hell, the only thing the Solos actually have over the Beyers is that I look like kind of a dork with the Beyers on, but I'm not vain so...

Not a valid analogy, at all.
Crashing cars is an entirely different thing from breaking headphones. Although, Beats could be most closely compared to some Lancias (except for the great innovation they are responsible for), if you must compare them to cars. They fell apart as you drove and couldn't hold up to... Well... Anything. They look pretty cool, though.

Well Beats are closer to Fieros than to Lamborghinis. And umm...totaling a car is completely different from having a headphone break. All cars inherently are susceptible to crumpling up during a crash. Not all headphones snap. Actually, very few do. The only ones I can think of that may snap (which is rare) are the Qualia 010 and Sennheiser HD555-HD650. The rest use metal-reinforced headbands that only the Hulk could snap. A car spontaneously combusting is a better analogy.
But still, if you've never heard of a pair of Beats snapping, you are seriously uninformed. I should start to make a tally of broken Beats I see.
But Snowman, do you have any frame of reference? What other headphones in the same price range have you tried? If you haven't tried any others, well you don't have a valid opinion. You can't say you like McDonalds is the best food in the world if all you've ever eaten is McDonalds. Why should Beats be an exception to that rule?

I completely agree with this, you can't say one thing if you haven't tried the other.
