i was planning on jail breaking my iphone 4s using green posion the newer one but some one told me that you cant jail break the iphone 4s on 5.0.1 only on the 5.0.0
is this true or does it work on the 5.0.1?

as far as i know, there is still not a jailbreak for the 4s. im not entirely sure but you should not try using greenpoison to do it

No that is not true. Your friend is sadly mistaken. You can jailbreak iOS 5.0.1.

There is a 5.0.1 jailbreak. Mine has been jailbroken since yesterday.
