It does improve the overall stats of your players and passing, understanding each other and making runs is pretty easy to see.
When you have a high chemistry, your players will play so much better.

I find it is better, as the play flows a lot nicer, and is easier to get better moves going, and counter attacks. Also, passing is a lot better.
