if you can help i will rep bigggggggggggg.
my iphone 4 (verizon) was $40. it wont boot and shows nothing on screen. when i plug it into itunes it will recognize that there is a phone plugged in and try to update and restore.
then i get the 1604 error. i think it is bricked but i dont see anything at all on screen. not even the usb- itunes picture.
i have tried changing host file and using unbrella. no luck it will get past the "validating with itunes" then it will say again "preparing for restore" then it will do nothing for 3 min then show 1604 error.
can i restore anyway without itunes?

put it in to recover mode hold power and off button untill you see the connet to itunes try that

Download redsnow and click extras and click pwn dfu, will fix it

im not sure if you 3 read my topic or just skimmed it.
i have tried everything you are saying and i keep getting 1604.
sometimes when i do all that the error will go to 3867 or somthing like that. still no completed restore.
if anyone has the answer to my issue i will rep everyday for a week.

Have you gone into the Folder with the Ispw file deleted it and let it download a new one? Thats worked for me. If you took it to an apple store wouldnt they just fix it for you, its a common error?

all you need to do is to download tinyumbrella, start TSS server and restore

tried that, to the next guy i tried that, and to the guy who says tiny umbrella i tried that!!!
i took apart the phone and the logic board looks like it was ran over by a car or somthing
no video on the screen
i swapped screens and still no video
OVER IT!!!!! ;)
