A couple of months.

Powermining could change that drastically but keeping the ores will sure make a lot of money.

You should not aim to get 99 straight away, just make little targets such as "60-75"
This will keep you more interested in the game.

It all depends if you powermine and how much you play, took me 9 months on and off of powermining to get 99.

To be honest mine coal until you can mine the Concentrated Coal deposits in the Living Rock Cavern (LRC) and then mine the Concentrated Gold when you can. You will make a lot of money.

As for how long it takes, it all depends on how long you play for. You could get it in as little as a month, or as long as 2 years.
