You couldn't go more wrong. Read the OP, I explained why.

You can EQ the bass down. If you have an iPod Touch, you can buy EQu to do that.
But for $100, there's the Creative Aurvana Live!, Koss DJ100, KRK KNS6400 (might not have enough bass), and AKG K181.

Hey i was wondering if you could help me out.
I have been reading up and have decided i either want to get the Audio Technica ATH-M50, the ULTRASONE HFI-780, or the ULTRASONE HFI-580.
I have read that the Audio Technica ATH-M50 are actually overrated so i figured i would ask you. I really like the design of the ULTRASONE HFI-780 and have heard that they are the best of the three options.
Thanks.

I would take the HFI-580 over the M50, definitely. And you're right, the HFI-780 is the best of those. Also consider the brainwavz HM5 pre-order from MP4nation. They're Fischer Audio FA-003 rebrands, and they're awesome for the price. You may not like the design, though.

I'm in the camp that thinks the M50 is overrated. Here's what I said a few pages back:
There are two types of people: the people that LOVE them, and the people that hate them. There are very few that are in between. r00t_b33r loves his pair; I've tried at least 5 different pairs and I've hated all of them. They're bassy (for a studio monitor, but objectively, they're not incredibly so), with somewhat recessed mids and bright treble. The pairs I tried all had veiled vocals and instruments along with a very discordant, cacophonous sound. (Caveat, there is apparently a new version that's more neutral, I'm not sure if that holds any weight or not.) They'd probably be worth their price at the $100 they used to sell at, but now they're 30% more and for that price, I'd get an Ultrasone HFI580 every time.
Now the thing about Ultrasones is that their S-Logic driver placement doesn't work for all people. They displace the driver a bit lower than your ear canal so they sound funky, to say the least. They're technically better, but if at all possible, try to hear a pair. It's hard to describe the sensation with words.
Honestly, I'd get whatever's cheapest. The difference isn't really as drastic as some people would lead you to believe. They're all bassy and have accentuated treble. The M50's are a bit more boring sounding and the Ultrasones can get piercing depending on your treble tolerance. And you'd never notice if you didn't hear both and don't have a better headphone to compare them to. The main reason people think the M50's are overrated is that Audio Technica, with their infinite wisdom, decided to increase the price of the M50 by 50%. If they cost $100 like they did before, that would make them $20 cheaper than the HFI580, and not a bad deal at all for a newbie, but at $150, close to the same price as the HFI780, it's a lot harder to recommend.
BUT...the HFI780 will have a little less bass (not much less) and more treble/detail. It'll sound 10% better technically than the HFI580, so if the difference between the two is $30 and you're willing to spend a bit more, by all means, go for it! Whatever you get will be better than whatever you have anyways! The HFI780 will probably be the best for all music, and you'd always have the nagging feeling that you didn't get the best if you go for the 580. Just don't think the 780 will be a revelation compared to the 580. If you can't stretch the $30, don't feel terrible for getting the 580.
