It was to address an issue with Xbox LIVE Party Chats. There was a glitch where everybody would appear to have your name, for example:
A party chat with 3 people in named:
- Jack
- Jimmy
- Terry
For Jack, everybody would appear to be named "Jack", for Jimmy, everyone would appear to be named "Jimmy" and for Terry, everyone would appear to be called "Terry".
EDIT - It was also to fix a few minor problems relating to themes and avatars (They would not appear).
