I don't think it's possible because if you change one thing in the past even the smallest thing like saying a word 2 seconds later will change the future dramatically.

I was watching that show Through the Worm hole and scientists said that you wouldn't be able to travel back in time because at that point in time a "time machine" didn't exist. Therefore, you would only be able to travel into the future.

well that's also going with the theory that you have to have set stations to arrive into when you travel time. And if we could travel in the future that means those future people can travel back into our time, thus traveling back in time. But, I think time travel would be traveled with a machine like a jet, not like a teleportation pad.
