Beats aren't worth it at all. Instead, look at the Ultrasone PRO900 or HFI580. If you want something that looks cooler, the Audio Technica ES10 should be flashy enough.

No. Read the OP of this topic, I explained in detail why.

But seriously, if you're looking for a lot of bass, Beats are not the place to look anyway. If you want something that will perform a bit better than the Beats for less, have a look at the Koss DJ100.

You may notice that those are ~$80. Yes, Beats are THAT overpriced. If you want something that wipes the floor with Beats on all fronts (sound quality, durability, design, versatility, cost, etc.) the Audio Technica Pro 700 Mk. II is a HUGE bass cannon if bass is what you're after.

If you can still spend $300, the Ultrasone Pro 750 is not even comparable to Beats. It would be insulting to even compare the two. The bass is killer on the Pro 750, as well as the rest of the sonic spectrum. Not even the Pros (Which are not considerably better than the Studio) can come close to the 750. They'll be perfect for the music you want to listen to, and do everything right that the Beats do wrong (a lot).

The Pro 900 needs an amplifier and the prices are very wonky. I've seen them between $300 and $600. I don't think they're terribly power-hungry, though.

If you're going to be walking around and working out, I'd recommend you not get over-ear headphones and just go with a higher-end pair of IEMs. They're far superior to over-ear and on-ear headphones for mobility. Still, you might be like me and prefer full-size cans for everything!

The Ultrasone Pro 750 will handle all of your music very well. They're also some of the best portable full-size headphones out there since they have features like a removable cable and a folding and swiveling design. A good cheaper IEM for working out and such is the Xeport 5010. If you'd prefer a higher-end IEM alone, the Westone 3 is great. It should compliment your music very well, and Westone is known for great comfort, usability, and comfort. Other high-end IEMs are the Sennheiser IE7 and the JVC FXT90. There are tons of options out there, so look at the guide in the OP if you want to see what else there is.

The Vsonic GR06 is a neutral-sounding IEM, so if you're looking for something bassier, tell me. Since you listen to metal, though, the neutral sound will better accommodate all of your music.

The GR06 is the best option in it's price range. They're neutral and natural-sounding without being lifeless. They're very durable, comfortable, and sound excellent at their price point. The accessories are in a class of their own since the GR06 comes packaged with a BUNCH of different tips (and they're good tips, too), so you're sure to find a fit that you like. They're having issues with supply, so you'll have to get them here for now:

Amping's seriously overrated on Head-Fi. Even with my super power-hungry Sextetts (well, Sextett OEM), if I'd never heard them amped with a Burson HA160D, I'd be happy plugging them into even an iPod HP jack. As long as the user can get the right volumes (which should be possible since Ultrasones ime are pretty sensitive), it should be good enough at the moment. I was going to recommend the 750, but last time I checked, there was like a $30 difference between the two. I see the prices of the 900 have shot up. Bummer.

-Beast- the DUNU Tridents should be perfect for you. They love metal and aren't slouches with bassy music. I happened to dig up my pair earlier today and listen to some Finsterforst and they were surprisingly good!
