Monitors > TVs, unless you absolutely need the huge panel size.
Also, you guys will doubt me due to what marketing has made you believe, but quality CRT monitors are superior for gaming. For instance, the Sony Trinitron FW900 remains one of the best monitors, particularly for gaming, ever created. It may weigh 100 pounds, but the picture quality, refresh rate, and other qualities are still world-beating. I'd kill to have one on my desk.
