I will be commuting to school so I would like 22/27 city/hwy mph on it but not to where its a family car

Get a Subaru Legacy. Im not sure if there is a diesel version but if there is, go for the turbo diesel. 30mpg, 4 wheel drive, 5 seater, very spacious and still good looking. This car has such good AWD that it will pull out a truck from mud and go up an icy hill faster and smoother than any other car.

I'd get a Ford Ranger 4x4 Pretty good on gas and will get you where yah need to go

EDIT: Since no trucks i'd get a SUV like a jeep or a Explorer

In that case, get a 03 Chevy Malibu. Its got some balls, spacey, cheap.
