I am a FPS gamer but I think Skyrim is like 10 times better than BF3, so in my opinion I would choose Skyrim.

If you like FPS then get Battlefield 3, it's a great game online.

If you prefer RPG's then get Skyrim. It's not really a hard choice as they are two completely different games in two completely different genres.
