Is it possible to download xbox arcade games and install them on your hard drive via usb like you can with game saves?
tried it with a sonic i downloaded online but said corrupted

If u ca get a arcade game that was on a disk, then yes. like from a arcade compilation disk. Most of the arcade's are signed to the profile (or 1st xbox) that downloaded it 1st.
Or use a JTAG
