well i have a old grumpy pc with a 20g hd and i wanna add it to a pc im getting in about 2 weeks its not new its used its a dell i belive
so do i need to format the old drive to be adden on the 'new' pc i dont care i i lose the files that are on it
so please help my

Mo there is no need, you will just need to buy the SATA cables for it.

Depends if your hard drive is floppy or SATA.
