Because we don't buy them new (atleast i don't). I buy most of mine broken with DVD drive problems mostly, for like $15, repair it for $10, and RGH/jtag it and sell it for $175-$200+ depending on motherboard.

It's only like 20 pounds to RGH a Xbox.
And basically free to JTAG.
You can use NAND x many times , and i always have diodes and wire around.
They make some profit and builds up after time.
