hi guys was wondering if anyone could help me with a major problem iv been having with my samsung galaxy ace, it is the gt-s5830 version also 2.3.3 android version and has GINGERBREAD firmware, I was having problems sending and receiving SMS+MMS texts and also receiving calls but I can call other people, I have called up virgin media and have been given a new sim card which doesn't work... a few solutions I have is tried somebody else's sim card (also on virgin) which worked perfectly, and I have also gone into virgin's shop and was not helped at all, also I have tried the packet data off etc... and still doesn't work. I have read up about it being this 2.3.3 android version and GINGERBREAD, I have looked at flashing the firmware to cm9 but I am not sure whether or not this will help... what is the use in having a "smartphone" that's not even smart enough it wont send texts!

So someone else's sim worked fine.......
Yet you still blame the firmware/software.
There is something wrong with your account at network level.

the thing is... the sim that I tried was from a blackberry curve. I forgot to mention that i couldnt call with the other sim that i tried from the blackberry but I could text, and im still having problems with the new sim card that was sent to me from virgin media.
do you think it's worth me flashing my phone with cynagenmod?

no you take it back to the place you bought it and get it fixed or replaced.
Also virgin is garbage anyways, you get what you pay for

alright cheers, last time I went there (today)they put me on the phone to one of their call centres which I was put on hold at least 3 times, they then told me to go home and check for a software update which is presumably 2.3.6 but will try again.

Let them know its not the software and you want it sending away for repair (if less than 28 days since purchase)
Unless you got it from another retailer of course. In which case you need to go to them

Dial *#06#
It will tell you your IMEI. If it is 00000000000000 your retailer has scammed you for a almost useless phone, if not then i would flash CM7.2 (find here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583871)
not CM9 - if anything its more unstable
