Don't know about 'mindcraft'.

If you're asking about Minecraft, then got buy it.. It's less than $20.

There is a way to get single player for free. But that's cheap. Go buy it, Mojang deserve your money After all it's a lot cheaper than bigger games, and a lot more gameplay.

Is Mindcraft a game where you solve puzzles to open up the mind and develop your thinking?

Because it sounds great.

Minecraft however costs money, but you can easily get a crack for it.
