Thought I'd tell you what I just encountered on my skyrim journey. Two giants popped up out of nowhere, with 3 mammoths. Killed them all (No high ground either). So I see a dragon flying, and I follow it. While looking up chasing it I hear another giant walking. To my astonishment there are 3 more giants herding 2 mammoths. Again, out of no where. Not marked on my map or anything. So I kill them, this time with some high ground. So I'm running, and then the dragon swoops down after 15 minutes of me following it. It didn't swoop at me, it swooped at yet 1 more giant. The giant killed the dragon, and I killed the giant.

By the way, giants DO respawn after a few in game days. It will still say cleared on the map (If you're looking for a camp spawn) but there will be giants there again. So get killing!
