Its because I have started a new account and I still have like 8 months of gold on my old one, would I be able to ask them to cancel that subscription and add it to my new account?

I do not beleive so, you can only transfer Windows live Id between accounts

Yes iv done it to my account. They cancel it from your current account and send you the code of xbl that you had left. xbox support number will do this

if you call them and tell them that you want to cancel it because you have to go off to school some times the will give you codes that add up to the amount.
