1. What is rooting?
2. Tomorrow I'm getting the Samsung Stratusphere, and I'm hesitating to do it. Is there any risk of rooting?

1. Root is a process to hack your phone
2. Some goodies of rooting your phone are
a. Free HotSpot
b. Install some ROMs and kernels
c. Install themes
d. more things that I forgot
3. You can download apps for free without getting root your phone

Just update the phone with the newest firmware.


Then you will automatically have the Wifi hotspot.

Rooting basically lets you run more advanced apps. Yes, there is a very slim chance that you can soft-brick your phone but, where it is a Samsung, all you would have to do is put it in download mode. Also, for free apps, download SnappzMarket.
