If you have acces to Xbox Live you can play online games and play along with your friends and compete with them. Now you still have to pay for playing online but from 1st of July Xbox Live membership is gonna be free. Just to help you out!

no but some of my friends are having trouble connecting too at this moment in time. just wait a bit and keep testing xbox live connection:

system settings > network > (choose your connection type) > test xbox live connection
