2 more suggestions:

First, an item that is dropped by all boss monsters with like a 1/500 chance as a drop. This item can be traded into you for any item of the players choice.

Second, for holidays add special drops to boss monsters with like a 1/150 chance as a drop. For example, Christmas week or so bosses can drop christmas crackers. Halloween they can drop Scythes or Masks. Easter they can drop bunny ears and easter eggs.
