My friend bought a bare-bones kit and asked me to put it together, I assumed it would be a fairly easy task. Screw this down plug that in and when the stuff actually came in and I looked the user manuals over I still felt perfectly capable of assembling the machine. I re-aligned the mobo standoffs and screwed the mobo down, then i slotted the CPU and the RAM and aligned the power button and POST speaker leads to its corresponding location on the mobo chassis power leads, and then plugged in the 24x pin power supply cable and a monitor. When I hit the power on button the fans kicked in but there were no POST beeps and no feed to the monitor. I called ASUS support and they told me the mobo was dead. At this point I feel as if I may have fried it but I don't see how I could have, I was tethered down with an anti-static wrist strap hooked up to the case the whole time and I didn't use unusually amounts of force when trying to slot any of the components. Is this doubt justifyiable? Did I take a wrong step somewhere or am I just being paranoid?

Did you plug in the CPU power connector? Try different RAM slots and using on board graphics if applicable.
