Torrent Windows, drop the monitor, up the GPU, buy a quality PSU, drop the DVD drive and re-use the one you have now along with the HDD. A 955 is in the price range of an i3-2100, but performance wise the i3 pulls out on top. A $600 PC build that includes Windows and a monitor ( $165 ) is very tight, but looking at benchmarks of a 550 ti playing Skyrim matched up with a 2600k, they are getting a stable FPS of 50 @ 1920x1080 with high preset. So you will either have to up both the CPU and GPU, or play on medium with 2 x AA or none.

One thing I would change on your budget is the GTX 550 Ti and change it for a HD 6850 or a HD 6870 its only a few dollars more but it has better performance for gaming. You can Pirate Windows 7 Here: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and get a Corsair, Antec Power suppy instead of a cheap power supply that will die in 2 months and kill all of your components. The ram is a little slow but it will do just fine! Other then that Looks like you have a good budget build. Have fun building -Hannibal

EDIT:You may also want to change the cpu to the Phenom x4 965 BE or up because you will have better performance and you can overclock later on!

...Or go the smart route and switch over to Intel.

No, not for everything, but for gaming a Intel processor will be more efficient in gaming that a AMD counter part.
