It depends on what you want it for... So, if you would care to list some of the uses you have for it, I will let ya know ;)

They are worth it, but don't get one just to host infections.

With a Jtag you can do much more than just mod cod thats just what people do with them the most.But you can also play burned games you can mod,And copy games to the harddrive.(play with out disk in the drive)

Dont listen to this guy. Jtags are totally worth it but dont just get it to host they do so much more for example emulators. They are worth it any experianced jtager that knows what they are talking about will tell you the same

Unless its a jasper or better no. Reason being you can't mod all the stuff you could before online so i'd stick to offline modding which is still really worth it and fun in my opinion. I'd get an RGH jasper if you can't find a jasper jtag as they are a lot more common and a lot easier to find and sell for a little cheaper.
