I have explored countless caves and have yet to find obsidian... Please help!

Add lava to a water source block, can only be picked with diamond.

Screw the diamonds, do it the cool kid way.

Build up two blocks, place lava at the bottom and then water on top. There's your obsidian.
Now add one block to the tower and do it again, keep doing that in the shape of a portal.

No diamonds needed.
