(NewsCore) - Justin Bieber is now a high school graduate, finishing up his schooling at the insistence of his mother.

The 18-year-old Canadian pop star announced "I just finished high school," in an interview this weekend with The Daily Telegraph.

"I passed my test -- I'm free! It was hard doing school and work every day," the "Boyfriend" singer told the Australian newspaper.

"That was something my mom [Pattie Mallette] really wanted me to do, so I had to do it for her," he continued.

"I mean, this kind of lifestyle has given me a different perspective on life. I've been able to travel the world. At school, usually you have to do a lot of writing and reading. I'm really not into that stuff. I like to be out there."

Bieber, who got his start at the tender age of 14, has spent his teen years touring, recording and amassing a huge following on YouTube and Twitter.

The paper said the pop star completed his education on the road, "in between touring, recording and fending off fans."

Though his third studio album, "Believe," won't be out until June, the singer announced this week he will release a single in honor of his mother, titled "Turn To You," in time for Mother's Day this Sunday.
