You can actually just press LB you dont have to hold it. But you still have to hold down the Right trigger.

it actually doesn't cook them. cause you can hold the nade like that as long as you want and it wont blow up

Exactly, I only do this when I am behind a corner and I want to strafe around and toss it then get back in quickly. Great way to aim it though.
