as above i have a very simple question, if i do not have the dlc content downloaded and i am gifted the car what happens? do i have to download the dlc to use the car or what?

A car cannot be used if you don't own/have the dlc pack that the car is gifted from

If you don't have the dlc, you can't use it. Simple as that.
