I now have an answer to this. Their pads are kinda soft, but they get uncomfortable after a couple of hours since they're supraaural, yet cover the entire ear. They sound decent. I'd recommend them only to people that like pop or electronic though. The 3D Axis thing is super fun to play with.

So I bought a K181DJ and I got it in the mail today. It doesn't really sound like an AKG usually does, obviously, but I found it has a host of problems, like a really hollow midrange, not really any soundstage, and the same plasticky upper midrange/low treble that I heard in both the K701 and the K550.

BUT. That's all with my indie and rock music, not what the K181's were made for: pop and electronic. Frankly, If I was to use any headphones to poison non-audiophiles, it'd probably be these, possible set to "Large Club" mode, which adds a nice serving of bass, at the cost of some muddiness. I put on the pop station in Pandora (yeah I know they have horrible bit rates, but I'm not really listening for that) and I found that the K181's are probably the most fun headphone I have now. They're basically perfect for the tripe that's popular, and for that, it's pretty easy to recommend to people that don't venture far off those genres.

All in all, I'd say it was a good use of $30. Heck, if I listened to more pop music, I'd probably pay up to $90 since they're so infectious. They're kind of like a MEElectronics M31 or CC51, at a stretch, on steroids.

I'll have a lot more about them next week; right now, I'm busy attempting to study for the standardized test tomorrow.

Oh, and pictures will come next week when I finally buy my new camera (Sony A57).
