XeJames wrote Java is a hard thing to code

look it up on google How to Code in java

they will help you the most

????

Java is really easy to write, there are so many libraries at your disposal. The only thing easier to write, imo, is C#.

____ wrote If you live in Florida, there is a free online course hosted by FLVS. But, if you don't live in FL, you can pay for it.

The description of the course from the FLVS website:
Computer Programming 1 is a two-semester course that enables students to learn two modern programming languages: Python and Java. The course teaches programming using real-world, practical examples. Students learn Python by controlling the motion and sensory capabilities of a robot. They learn Java by manipulating graphics, images, and audio. Programming is easier than most students think, and students show what they know by choosing projects that are of interest to them. Major colleges and universities are now using this approach to teach introductory computer programming, so students in this course learn the skills necessary to tackle advanced programming.

I feel like controlling a robot and doing stuff with graphics isn't a good place to start, even though it says it's an introductory course. I'd start with making simple console applications, reading files, etc.

Trust me, you won't get far unless you take a course like this one. Programming is not as simple as it seems.

By what you want the games to run on I meant like on a computer or Android, etc.
Since you're new I suggest learning the basics using [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Sticky_Note wrote I want to start game development but, i dont know were to start or any good tutorials.

Any suggestions guys?

If it's Java you're after, check out [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] 's videos. I found this a great place to get a foot hold on Java and begin understanding the language. Initially, there's 87 videos on simple tutorials; getting to know functions and understanding how they work. Afterwards, check out some of Bucky's intermediate videos, then eventually, he has a playlist of videos on Java game development, starting right from things as easy as making a GUI. Check out the site [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] for more information.

After finishing the simple tutorials, you might want to buy a book and read through- either a hard back or as a .pdf file. Good luck, I found this the easiest way to learn Java (I've been at it a year and I've only just scratched the surface!).

I just feel like a class like this would just jump right into the fun stuff, like robots and graphics, without teaching the important stuff, the ins and outs of a programming language. In my opinion, introductory courses should concentrate on loop/if statements methods/functions, arrays, classes, and string manipulation. Those five things are very important if you want to become a programmer, not necessarily programming robots and GUIs. I don't know much about programming robots, but from what I've seen, it doesn't look like you need to really understand a language in order to write a program that controls a robot. I could be wrong though, like I said I don't really have any experience with robots. Also, it says that students will learn how to manipulate pictures and audio. I fail to see how a person new to programming could be taught in under a year enough to fully understand image manipulation.

I'm not sure if you've taken the class yourself, but I think that you should post EXACTLY what you learned. From the description you provided, it sounds like this class is a really bad introduction to computer science.
