okay I don't know if anyone would know anything about ubuntu or linux but im asking everywhere because this issue concerns me. I upgraded from ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 today. I reset my computer because my videos weren't playing, when i logged back in there was no unity bar side bar and topbar. I plugged my iPod in so i could access my files but nothing there was useful. After resetting it again i notice the only thing on my desktop was gyazo so i took a quick screen shot. No other programs would work but after taking a screen shot it opened up firefox so I could google the problem, the only solution I found was a terminal command to reset my unity bar which made my computer freak out. After that I had to force shutdown. After turning it back on and logging in it was fixed and programs worked but I'm afraid this could happen again so I would like to know if anyone here has a solution or anymore knowledge about this. I personally don't even like ubuntu but when getting my new computer due to the old one breaking my friend failed to tell me it had no OS on it so I had to use a ubuntu 11.10 live booter. After doing a clean install of that I figured out the only way to get Windows on it was to format the HDD which it wont let me do without a separate drive to boot off of and i cant dual boot either because It wont let me partition the drive without unmounting it and i have nothing to boot off of to unmount it. I could use a live nuker to format it now that i finally have a windows disk i borrowed, but I have over 100gbs of videos that I refuse to part with even if I could re-download them. I plan on saving up for a 3Tb external HDD and dual booting. But that's the only reason I'm using ubuntu. If I can't solve the issue I may just back up my files on my brothers girlfriends external HDD and do a clean install of 11.10 or just format it and install windows. If you can help that would be appreciated.

I would recommend backing up your files, then formatting your hdd, and follow Forums/t=3809045/the-custom-pc-topic.html

the getting windows and activating windows in the very first post of this topic
