My friends brother recently decided to jam a knife into his Xbox causing the drive to break and he chose to order a new one thinking a straight swap was possible, it arrived and the games were read as dvds as the dvd key does not match the one on the consoles motherboard.

I haven't got a working desktop at the moment and don't really want to pay out for a X360USB Pro so I can't swap the key from the old broken drive to the working one, my friend (if he can) wants to avoid sending it off so that he doesn't have to pay out any more money.

The question I am basically asking is would it be possible for me to remove the PCB boards from each drive and swap them into the other, so that the PCB from the broken drive (the one with the required dvd key) was in the new working dvd drive. (as far as I know the broken drive has no damage to the PCB)

Thanks you, seen as the other drive itself is broken but the PCB from the new drive is working fine it would be useless to refit it, so I just need to find a buyer for it now I suppose
